This is a project that happens to be one of my favorites to date. Many times I’m printing projects with bright colors, but this one was special because Sade was looking to take her current logo and apply it to letterpress business card layout with really luxurious rich warm colors (enough adjectives already)! Sade wanted a rich ivory stock and I said YES! Let’s do it on Crane’s 220# ecru paper. I don’t get to print on the ecru very often so I knew this would be a knockout piece.

RI design proofs: Sade had provided the Bridal Couture Closet logo on the front of the card, however she wanted to explore a diamond pattern in a light latte for the background and needed layout for contact info on the rear of her business cards.

She wanted her contact info to be presented in a unique way but not too over the top. We elected to put in dingbats to help convey the method of contact (web/email/phone) and to shorten up the lines of type so as not to extend too long.

Each of these diamond patterns behind the logo presented unique opportunity when letterpress printed. Any time the paper “color” is reversed out of a design there is a beautiful pillowing effect that goes on, similar to a faus emboss. Which ultimately gives a third dimension to the piece. When I first started designing and printing for letterpress this was an area unexplored until I started really noticing how the print was affected by the design. It has been a cool process to see different pieces on press and learn how they can add to the final print work in a way that digital proofs just can’t quite convey.

These letterpress escort tags were shipped out a few weeks back for a bride who was doing a modern holiday wedding. Her colors were brown, plum and cream.  Angela came to me with a few ideas in mind: she was having an Italian and travel themed wedding and was looking for a few different options to explore in the designs. One option was to explore a vineyard illustration, rough and modern as they were celebrating at a great winery and she thought that might be a way to bring across the location in the details.

She had also mentioned the possibility of doing a luggage tag or passport styled tag as they were going to name their tables after cities in Italy – you know, Rome, Tuscany, and the likes.

Our last option explored was to reflect her main floral arrangements, which were going to be made up of roses and anemones so we obviously explored that route as well. Wedding Escort Tags Proofs, Anemone/Wild Rose

In the end she went with  the anemone favor tags and escort tags that would be hand-calligraphied with guest’s name and table number on them.

    Thank YOU!

    letterpress anemone thank you tags

to you for being patient and giving me a much needed break from blogging. It’s been killing me to not be able to post every day but when push comes to shove, I had too much work (and cute children) that needed my attention. With that said, I’ve been slowing things down a little here so as to gear up for the holidays and now that I’ve had some time to breathe I’ll be resuming more regular posting. I can’t believe how much work has gone through the studio these last few weeks so expect some fun new product and posts over the holiday season. Thanks again for being patient, you’ll be rewarded for your loyalty!

These letterpress thank you tags were shipped for a bride who is having a holiday wedding. She was looking for some letterpress escort tags and favor tags that were NOT Christmasy. We came up with a simple anemone/wild rose looking tag. Printed on 110# paper with rounded corners in brown ink, I’m thinking I’m going to have to print another set for myself to use as thank you gifts for family when birthdays roll around!

Amy came to me needing some tags/bookmarks for a 3mile she was participating in on October 3rd. She is a scientist and wanted something sophisticated, clean and needed it to reflect work and research that was being done to further find a cure for breast cancer. These were to be passed out during the walk so we got to work coming up with designs. Here were some preliminary design proofs that were pushed around. Finding an appropriate quote proved tough though as she had a specific message she wanted to convey. We all know someone who has been effected by breast cancer – my mom found breast lumps at age 27. My friend found lumps at 24. Another friend I had during college was diagnosed in her mid-twenties. amy hughs, breast cancer letterpress tag

Finally after a few rounds of samples and designs she came up with the saying “With a little hard work, we can make our own miracles.” I think this fits so many areas of application -  though science, faith and courage we really can make our own miracles even if they aren’t the ones we anticipate in the beginning. These tags turned out being one of my favorite sets I’ve printed yet.
