let me say, it is SO great to be back – Stationery Show was AMAZING and we have a lot of orders we are working on fulfilling for our custom and new wholesale accounts. It was so great to see such amazing creative at the show too – one of my favorite parts about the show is the collection of everyone’s business cards. Beautiful printing, fabulous design and inspiring creativity leave little to be desired at NSS. It is like visual overload!

Business cards are such a great way to introduce your business as well as your personality. The cards below were client designed and I LOVED how, although simple, the waffle pattern really adds a great textural element to these cards.

Letterpress printed for Joe Martinez as a 3/2 letterpress printed card, these babies got the full treatment with multiple inks, blind impression and a fabulous edge paint. Printed on 220# Arturo paper with pantone matches and a CMYK edge paint match, I LOVE seeing client designs come to life on press from the original file designs.

While our primary business reflects our own design and printwork, we do work with client submitted files and can print them here in the studio. Get an estimate, we’d LOVE to work with you this summer – and stay tuned next week for some Stationery Show re-caps as well as more tradeshow tuesday notes and our latest printwork that we get to FINALLY launch (after working on it so hard this year)!

Hannah Maple Studios

these business cards were printed for Hannah a few months back. She had submitted design files and specs for letterpress and we recommended based off the design. The stock we used for these cards were Gmund’s 110# cover in Pine duplexed to 110# black. The black side of the cards had a blind impression with a varnish printed in the pattern of a snake skin and then over-printed with studio info in a light tan as well.

For extra saturation we printed the information side in registration black so the pine paper didn’t show through (black tends to want to be extra transparent sometimes).

I love how these cards, paired with the edge painting, look like two almost completely different cards because of the two paper colors. Beautiful contrast, thanks Hannah for being so awesome to work with!

……………….

If you are interested in letterpress business cards, we can design and print them as well as commercially print your own designs. Head over here to get an estimate and some samples! We’d love to see what you’ve got up your sleeve or hear about your vision!

These cards were designed and printed by Emily who worked for me this last year on press and in the studio, who is now doing more project managing now that she has left us for Denver and the hubby’s internship. As Emily described it, she wanted to explore overlay printing before she left and thought a manly plaid would fit well since her husband Chris, also a graphic designer,  was a pro at sporting plaid shirts everywhere he could. What turned out as a happy mistake (those that you don’t intend to make but end up being really cool) was the fact that these were printed as 2×3.5″ business cards. However when trimming (it was the end of a very long day), half of the stack was flipped and trimmed wrong. Talk about heart-attack moment! After talking it over and looking at …

These cards were letterpress printed on 220# arturo with Pantone match and matte metallic gold inks as a 1/1 business card for Phoebe. Phoebe is an excellent graphic designer and designed these cards for her branding collateral as an extension of her already awesome website. I am a big fan of chevrons lately and am totally digging these wide set ones on the back of Phoebe’s card, how about you? Edge painted with a custom mix strawberry ink, thanks Phoebe for being so excellent to work with! I loved how these turned out.

You may remember these that we showed back as a sneak peek in October. And then of course I was slow to getting around to blogging the full set of photos! Fifi is from Australia and a recent grad and contacted us in hopes that 1) we shipped internationally, and 2) We accepted designed files for press. Lucky for her, we do both and were super excited to print these cards for her. Letterpress printed on 220# Arturo as a 2/1 card, I love the softness of the blushy-pink pantone match paired with the sophisticated black ink/black edge paint. Sized at 2×3.5″ and printed as an initial set of 250 (our minimum opening order for a set of custom or client submitted files) you can get an estimate for yourself here - we are already booking the press for March and April!

Another lovely set of Calling Cards for Emily Ellyn I love the orange edge paint paired with the black ink. These were printed on 110# LUXE paper and edge painted with our signature highly pigmented inks with love. On these cards, I discovered that latex gloves really helps keep your hands from cracking. With all the hand washing, painting and heat gun settings, my finger tips have started cracking with this dry winter weather. Good bye cracking knuckles, hello latex gloves! If you are looking at landing yourself a set, it is a great way to get into some letterpress cards without breaking the bank and they turn around fast! Check them out here to customize a set of your own.

We are already two months into winter here so needless to say, my mind is wandering to more tropical climates. These shipped out for a destination wedding and let me tell you, I SO wish I was somewhere warm right now. We have  lose to eight feet of snow banks on our road in places. These were letterpress printed on lettra paper, 220# as a 2-color job. One thing I’m finding is that lettra – while a great paper – seems to exaggerate the “salty” look when printing large ink areas. It seems that paired with the texture and composition of the paper there is less ink absorbancy when printing a flood in comparison to other papers (Mohawk and Arturo come to mind specifically as having better absorbancy). In the end, I think it depends on what sort of look you are …

I have to say, I have some awesome brothers. Both of which I love dearly! Matt, the little brother, worked for Dingbat last year before he started grad school and if you remember he did a few great posts on business Friday. As a thank you, these were supposed to be at NSS last year for him to hand out but they got lost in a shipping snafu and then buried for a few months back at the studio. I finally was able to find them and dig them out as well as photograph them and get them sent off to their rightful owner. A few things about Matt, he really liked this flying pig that was rejected by another client. He claimed it as his own. Matt’s personality is all about having fun, enjoying life and having a positive attitude. He …

SO excited to show these, they’ve been hanging out here in draft space for quite some time! We’re launching some updated calling card designs (but will still continue the beloved calligraphy calling card). One of them is our QR code card. These are for the minimalist techie addict, and thanks to the genius of smartphones (THANK YOU STEVE JOBS) these would be a great new way to send out your contact info without flooding the card with loads of info. Letterpress QR code business cards, printed on Legion Eco-rag 220# with registration black ink. Edge painted in black ink, sized at 2.5×2.5″ – you can read the full write up on the letterpress project at FPO (UnderConsideration). So excited!! Want some of these rad cards for yourself? Contact us for an estimate (they are quite well priced)!
