These were custom letterpress baby announcement based off of the little elephant gift tags for sale in the shop. Done as a 2 color print and paired with matching envelopes they were so fun and adorable, I just love doing baby announcements :)

Also included in the order were custom thank you notes with baby’s name and the elephant to the side, man I think these are so precious, my poor kids were deprived seeing that I never did announcements for any of them b/c they were all totally unexpected deliveries!

Okay – so those of you that follow the blog may know that David is Type 1 diabetic. While we manage the condition and have a positive outlook it was devastating when he was first diagnosed. Blood sugars are not so easy to manage – giving multiple injections to a child that just turned 4 seemed cruel. Brian and I stopped going out on dates because there was no one who knew how to take care of David’s diabetic needs (and I had trust issues). In addition, I was 5 months pregnant, expecting our 3rd child when he was diagnosed. Overwhelmed to say the least, I turned to two of the only people who I knew could help us though. Help me be calm, help David feel like a kid again. My cousin Katie is a year younger than me. She is an amazing elementary teacher, and she has a fantastic husband Marc. She has also been Type 1 since she was 11, but lives about 350 miles away from me. I shamelessly asked her to drop everything – begged her to – so I could deliver baby #3 in a hospital 60 miles from home (we live rural) with my husband in the delivery room and not worry that my other kids would end up in the hospital with us. Katie, being the woman that she is didn’t hesitate once. When I went into labor the kids spend their first night with my dear friends while Katie drove all the way up to Idaho. She then provided relief for everyone. David had someone to relate with finally, I delivered a healthy baby without losing my mind and I’ll be forever grateful for the service rendered that day. One year later Katie has given birth to her first, a beautiful and healthy baby girl. The least I could do was say, hey you rocked diabetes – and saved my life – can I design and letterpress print your baby announcements?

Thank you to Katie, to my friends, to my family and to you my loyal readers for being there for me when I needed it most. I didn’t know then if I’d continue working, if I had enough passion to put more love into my work and this blog but you all encouraged me and nudged me along. To help my son, I had to help find myself again this last year. Thank you for all your love and support. I can’t believe baby Charlie is almost 1, it’s been 18 months since diagnosis, and I’m finally starting to forget what the before’s were like. It’s time to enjoy the after’s because isn’t life really all about having a happily ever after?

Every once in awhile I get the opportunity to work with another designer and its such a pleasure to see what they come up with. These letterpress baby announcements were designed by Andrei for his new baby. The monogram is so retro and unique. I loved the un-traditional color scheme as well. Thanks Andrei for letting me print these for you!

    Orangealicious!

    Posted in: Kids

Orangealicious LetterpressSo the other day I bought Evelyn a little PollyPocket size Strawberry Shortcake doll and didn’t realize until this evening that I have unleashed the girlyness that I thought didn’t exist in the tomboy 2 year old. This Strawberry Shortcake came with an 11 minute DVD that I have now memorized and am often referring to when in conversation with said 2 year old. All I hear about is Strawberry, Plum Pudding, Blueberry Muffin and Orange Blossom (among others).  As I typed this post I found myself humming the obnoxious theme song Strawberry, Strawberry, Straw-berrrr-yyyyyyyyy Short.Cake! in an even more obnoxious teeny-bopper falsetto voice. Bleh. And then I realized that Wednesday is devoted to Orange on Autumn Week with PoppyTalk and thought that I haven’t shown you this orangalicious letterpress announcement that shipped this month. Here’s to girly girls with a hint of orange blossom ink. I love it when baby announcements stray from traditional pink towards something a little more sweet.

And because it’s an orangealicious day I thought I’d share some Orangealicious Etsy favs with you. Enjoy!

When I was correcting photos last night, I took a minute to browse my monthly archives in Adobe Bridge and couldn’t believe how many photos of work I’d previously done that didn’t make it to the blog! Not that I didn’t want them to, they just got forgotten about.

    Miss Grace Letterpress Announcements

This has been available in the shop as a set of cards since the beginning. It might have been my first listing even. So I was beyond thrilled when I was contacted about doing an announcement with the same “puppy love” illustration on it.

The client was looking for a vintage/art deco looking font which matched the style of the illustration. Thanks for such a great opportunity to do these as announcements!

So I know we’re not having a girl but just wanted to post this announcement that I printed last spring. There were many good intentions of photographing and blogging about it, but the old photos just didn’t do it justice. Now that I’ve learned a few tricks on how to use my camera and shoot product so that it actually looks like the real thing, this set finally made it through the rounds of getting re-shot just in time for the March thaw.

On a completely different note, I ordered all my seeds the other day for starting my annuals and vegg garden and can hardly stand the wait to get them here. It’s going to be a big planting day with the kids in the house, and hopefully will bring some lovely greenery for the last few months of frigid weather. Anyone as crazy as I am with plans to garden a lot this spring/summer?
