FINALLY the winner of the giveaway! First, update: Adam has finally come home! He is learning to walk again and talk. He has a small vocabulary and gets agitated due to the brain injury when over stimulated. His feeding tube is still in and he eats between 2-3 oz. of liquid food per feeding. It will be a slow road to recovery and they are not sure the extent of the brain and injuries that will remain or if he will make a full recovery. Only time will tell. George and Susan are optimistic and we are continuing to pray for a speedy recovery. This is of Adam right before he was released from the hospital, petting Bullet the cat. Bullet helped with therapy while Adam was in the Neuro Trauma unit for post PICU recovery. After 6 long weeks, the family is finally home and all back together, but its a long road ahead. THANK YOU to everyone for your generosity, the funds raised will help pay for extensive medical bills for sweet Adam!

Onto to stats: We had a total of 190 entries, and raised $1,855 for Adam! We had contributions from all over the world – literally, it was amazing seeing the donations come in!

For each donation of $10, 1 entry was allotted. For every additional $10 made by the same contributor, they had an extra entry added in the drawing. All entries were numbered in order or receipt, and then a random integer was generated by Random.org

The winner will receive EITHER a set of 100, 2 color wedding invites/rsvp’s with printed envelopes OR a set of 100, 2 color baby announcements with matching thank you notes (printed envelopes). The pieces will obviously be letterpress printed, and turnaround is subject to our standard studio turn of 4-7 weeks* from start to ship date.

And the WINNER is: EMILIE DYKSTRA – I’ll be in contact on how to get started on your project Emilie.

Thank you again, everyone for your kindness towards baby Adam and his family. I’ll continue to update along the way!

This update is from Susan, Adam’s sweet mother:

Saturday they started warming Adam to 37.5 which is normal temperature, and took him off the paralytic medication at 10:30am. At about 3pm he began to show purposeful movements, kicking the nurse away with his foot, pulling away when they pinch his fingers, chewing on the ventilator tube, and reaching his hands to pull away the tubes, even opened his eyes a little tiny bit. These are good signs and very encouraging. Today they took him completely off the cooling blanket, and are letting him warm up on his own, he has a fever they are controlling with tylenol and motrin. They tried twice to put in a PICC line, and will try again this evening. We’re nearing the 72 hour time frame where the swelling will have reached it’s peak. They’ll do an MRI tomorrow or on Monday.

Sunday Adam had a blood test which revealed a bit of infection. Easily fixed with antibiotic. His oxygen was moved back to 45% because he had a little set back last night. They also did an ultrasound to check for blood clots in his legs, but I don’t know the result of that yet. Had a tube placed in his stomach to remove some excess air.(?) Now that the PICC is in they were able to remove the other IV’s. George said he woke up a little and moved some more. They keep him sedated to prevent him from pulling out the ventilation tube. When we peel back his eyelids there is a blank stare underneath. It is nice to have a little wakening and movement once in a while to let us know he’s still there. He has a beautiful color to his skin.

    Salt City Bakery Group

Andrea came to me via Etsy wanting a set of the Letterpress Sprinkles Cupcake Tags adapted for a brand system for her bakery/patisserie. A local baker in Salt Lake City, Utah she also needed something that would cross over into the online arena where she could promote her brand/shop she’d opened on Etsy as well. In the end, the designs had her two business names but we kept with the same styling and typographic nuances so that there would be visible recognition if one was searching her out but couldn’t remember a business name (like me sometimes ;) These were both letterpress printed on 110# paper in one color of ink. The business cards measure standerd 2×3.5″ and the tags measure 1.5×6″ with 1/2″ rounded corners and 3/16″ hole punch.

    Salt City Bakery Tags

After completing this project, I started thinking…it’s hard to turn away orders because someone has a small budget and only needs a starter pack of business cards to get going. I really love branding for people and wanted to provide a way for it to be cost effective for my clients as well as practical on the design and  printing side. So I’ve looked at a few different options and have come up with a solution. Many times when someone comes to me, they are a new entrepreneur on a tight budget, looking for a small branding package. As a result of wanting to contribute more to my customers initial investment, I’m now offering smaller minimums if purchased in a branding suite. Here is the first of a few new packages I’ll be unveiling over the next two weeks.

THE SMALL LETTERPRESS BRANDING PACKAGE! And to announce the launch, I’m GIVING AWAY one set this month (March).

    THE GOODS:
1 set of 100 standard business cards – square corners. Letterpress printed, 1 color ink front sided printing. Printed on 110# Lettra paper.

1 set of 50 tags (either 2×2″ or 1.5×6″) – 3/16″ hole punch and rounded corners. Letterpress printed, 1 color ink (same as business cards). Front sided printing. Printed on 110# Lettra paper.

1 banner OR shop avatar OR blog masthead provided in a .jpg file

1 logo provided in a .jpg file

All custom designed for you (or incorporating your own logo) – 3 digital designs presented, 2 rounds of revisions.

LASTLY, HOW TO ENTER: To be counted you must do the following:

    1) blog about your business and why you want the branding package. Goals, inspiration or how you got started are all great ways to introduce your business to me.

    2) link back to The Dingbat’s Agenda ( http://blog.dingbatpress.com) and my shop (http://dingbatpress.etsy.com)

    3) come back to this post and comment with a link to your specific blog post (links to your blog home will be disqualified, it must be your specific post)

Lastly, the more you promote the giveaway, the more I’ll know you want it. Tweet it, Facebook it and show the world you know you want it! All entries need the first three points above to qualify for selection, the rest of the social media plugs are up to you!

Contest ends March 30th, 2010 at 12:00am MST – I’ll choose a winner and announce it on April 1st!
Once a winner is selected and notified, they must respond within 1 week to claim their package. Production will be 4-6 weeks from start to ship date.

In wrapping up autumn week I thought I’d show you this experiment with edge painting. I know there are a few processes, all of which seem tedious. I recently happened upon someone who had mentioned they like to use a stamp pad/ink pad to achieve this effect so I thought I’d give it a go.

    skullandxbones

With the Lettra paper, it seemed to give great coverage on the sides however absorbed pretty quickly into the paper and onto the front. As you can see on the fanned cards, there is a little bleed that carries through to the front. The bane of every edge painters existence. I think with these cards it looks great as it adds a nice distressed element however don’t think I’ll be trying that technique on invitations any time soon.

    Edge Painting, Letterpress

If you’d like to score a set of 10 of these, comment to win!

The GOODS: 1 set of 10, 3×5″ cards paired with red envelopes.
Letterpress printed in black ink. Edge painted with red ink.

1 comment per person, randomly selected sometime Sunday October 3rd. Good luck!

I’m debuting a new product over at KwernerDesign, so if you want some for FREE, head over and enter!

BACKGROUND: You may have noticed (especially if you originally came from Kristina’s blog in the first place;) that we have a tie that stems WAY back (well not really). We were in the same design BFA at our Alma Mater BYU-Idaho and although she thinks I’m the talented designer I have to say I secretly ennvied her packaging and design skillz myself. Throughout the years I have thought, look at this girl GO! I think she was the reason I started blogging for my business in the first place, I only wish we lived in the same town, I might be bugging her more than she’d like! Thanks Kristina for hosting such a great opportunity!
