Hard walls vs. soft walls: This was a big one for me. In the end it came down to fireproofing and the hanging of the drape. With fireproofing, if you wash the fabric in the machine (say after the show) – you’ll have to re-fireproof most likely. I can’t deal with that kind of unpredictability esp. if NYFD is going to light a match to it and do the 10 second burn test. Don’t get me wrong though, fireproofing is SO important. I would not have realized it had we not had the burn accident with David. I can only imagine how Javits would go up in flame were a booth not fire retardant. The other reason I elected to forgo fabric was because really- I wanted to use burlap or linen. Both highly flammable. I had some really cool ideas that just …

Yes I’m finally getting around to blogging about everything. If you kept up on Facebook you might have seen a few photos of the booth setup here and there, but this is the post that you all have been waiting for. First off, a big thanks to Tracy of WeddingType Blog for letting me use her images she took of the booth at the show. She really did a great job capturing the booth’s walls and I just love the shot of the logo that she got. I’m going to work my way from past to present and will try to answer the questions posted in the comments from last weeks blog post. This post should have been broken down into about 5, so bare with me! Our booth shipped out early to the JKJCC advanced warehouse receiving. I was too nervous …

This card was fun to research and find an appropriate saying to pair with it. In the end I decided that religious or not, we can all agree that its not easy being a saint – especially when there is work to get done, or beds to be made, or children that need feeding. But having the right attitude can sure make a difference in the outcome of any chore or task. Saint or not, what are your dreaded tasks that could use a morning prayer or glass of wine at the end of the day? This card makes me chuckle. When designing it, I intended to portray the image that good kings are best served when they serve their people. But when it came off press I kept wanting to read it instead of true kings serve their people well but …

Thank you to everyone for letting me pretty much take the month off of blogging. I think from Feb-May I’ve not slept and my poor kids were more excited for the babysitter than me at times. But WOW, National Stationery Show 2011 was amazing. I don’t miss New York and its torrential downpour, but the show was incredible. I feel like there are a lot of mixed emotions when you throw your money endlessly at the tradeshow, new collections, union labor, lighting, booth, food and HOTEL (wow was that an expensive week) and then hope that buyers place orders, press coverage ensues and that you’ll make even a fraction of it back in the end. However, after it was all said and done, I feel like we landed some amazing accounts for wholesale and are continuing to write orders from contacts made …

Thank you everyone for putting up with no blog posts for the last week. There will be GOOD stuff this week to make up for it! David is recovering. Its looking like a couple months before he makes a full recovery but we are so thankful it wasn’t larger than a burn area of 1-2% on his body. I really appreciate everyone’s support! We worked on Brittany’s branding awhile ago and she recently came back for more printed material. Above were her banner/avatar options, as well as final style guide. Her business collateral now consists of letterpress business cards, with matching letterpress 4Bar flat notes and folded notes. I love seeing how a brand develops and the styling really takes its own personality when applied to other pieces.
