Hey guys and dolls – it’s been insane around here with sick children, anniversaries, getting ready for Halloween and obviously lots of work. You may remember Abby’s business cards that we designed and letterpress printed early last spring. We’ve continued to help Abby develop her brand with A6 notes, and now with elements to customize her blog where a majority of her current portfolio lies. Based in the DC area, Abby has a great eye and really captures her subjects beautifully. With the blog she had indicated wanting to take her brand in a softer direction, as she is currently working back into offering traditional film services along with her digital photography services. We were looking for a perfect meld of subtleness, but with her trademark hot pink still peeking through. Drop by Abby’s blog and see the design along with her …

I just love working with photographers! Each time I think I can’t do one more logo for a photographer, I get so inspired by the client brief, and each project turns out so unique. I think the reason it is so fun to brand photographers is that they all have a different eye in how they capture an image. While many shoot the same subject matter, it’s how they capture it that defines their look and why people hire them. I feel it is such fun to work with photographers because they respect creative license, and have an eye for beauty. They also utilize their branding as an extension of their work and themselves. Stephanie is no exception to being a fun client to work with. I have really enjoyed developing her brand and here are RI proofs for you to peruse! …

These letterpress calligraphy calling cards were done for Krista and we just love how the cobalt ink looked on the hot pink background when photographed. We are excited to announce dropped pricing (more for your buck) for the calligraphy calling card as well as extended options. We’ve also streamlined the process so now, instead of two separate transactions (calling cards and calligraphy), we’ve lumped that together and will do all the work for you. Check out the new calligraphy calling cards in the shop now! Calligraphy credits go to Kathryn of DellaCarta (option 2), Lisa Ridgely of Pen & Ink (option 3), and Emilie Friday (option 5). © 2010 by individual calligraphers for personal use only.

I’ve introduced you to my mom, Martha. She’s amazing – have I told you that? While I drive my organization and drafting skills from my dad, my love for color and creativity through medium comes from my Mom. When I was in high-school she started a quilt for me. There were many late nights spend toiling away with thimbles, needles and thread. While I was writing papers or fighting through algebra problems, she was there hand stitching her love for me. The bugs & butterfly quilt, titled metamorphasis, was something to represent a mother’s love I think. Whenever we’d fight or I’d be a not-so-nice teenager, she’d be there slaving on this quilt. Tears and blood went into this amazing piece of art that is truly priceless. I don’t think there is a memory of my teenage years that isn’t without this …

These euro business cards shipped in the summer and I just realized I never blogged about them! Printed as a 2/1 business card on 220# Lettra paper with pantone matches, this was a great project to collaborate on with one of my employees, Makayla who helped with the design on these. This was a great job on press because although there is the heavy flood on the front with reversed type, we also had the pink pattern in the background to help with extra ink on the press and good coverage. Larger print areas can be tricky on press but the lighter coral pink worked well because there wasn’t as much contrast with the paper creating a good print (sometimes darker colors can get paper show-through that is more prominent).
